The Energy Project (TEP)

Let’s come together to empower communities!

The Energy Project (TEP) works with energy utilities and other energy policy entities to advise on, expand, and develop bill assistance and weatherization programs for limited-income households. TEP also advocates for equitable, accessible, and integrated programming in utility and energy spheres across all program types, including newly developing electrification, community solar, and water affordability initiatives.

The Energy Project focuses engagement on issues that have a material impact on limited-income households and vulnerable populations.

For two decades, The Energy Project has participated in Utility and Transportation Commission proceedings concerning rates, rulemakings, and utility practices. TEP is the primary representative of low-income communities in the regulatory sphere.  The Commission relies on TEP’s expertise regarding program design and the impacts of utility practices on vulnerable communities surrounding affordability, stability, and resiliency of service.

Vision for Success:

  • Organizations, Utilities, and other entities in the energy policy sphere collaborate and partner in affordability efforts
  • Limited-income households and vulnerable populations are centered in energy policy making and the implementation of those policies.
  • Utility programming for affordability, energy efficiency, and renewables reaches a meaningful proportion of these communities in an accessible manner.

Positioning the Energy Project:

  • The Energy Project was formed over two decades ago, in 2001, within Washington’s Community Action Agency Network!
  • TEP works closely with the Community Action Agencies, implementing weatherization and energy assistance programs to support, inform, and represent the interests of the community and agencies.
  • TEP focuses on relationship-building with both Consumer-Owned and Investor-Owned Utilities
